Buying a Pram Newborn
Prams and pushchairs car seats are multifunctional, versatile allies of parents and caregivers. They are the co-pilots for your child's next adventure.
A pram newborn is dedicated to newborns and babies. It has a deep, sturdy carrycot with soft and safe walls.
A pram is typically equipped with a bassinet, but it can be transformed into a stroller seat when baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns must be protected as much as is possible. Purchasing a stroller or pram equipped with safety features will ensure that your baby is comfortable and safe during their travels. A stroller or pram should have a working break, a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and a crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person pushing it. Check that your chosen pram is up to the standards before purchasing.
Look for a pram that allows your infant to ride in the recommended lying flat position. This position helps your baby and helps prevent a dangerous curve in their spine that could cause problems with their spine. It reduces the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation, by keeping the airways clear. Most prams can be used from the moment of birth. They have a seat unit which reclines into a lay-flat position for infants, and can be converted into a pushchair for older children.
The suspension on prams is vital because it can affect how smooth the ride is. A pram with many suspensions is likely to cost more but it might be worth the cost of this feature if you are planning on using your pram everyday for a few years or more.
Always read the directions and look at the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not using it, place your stroller in a safe area away from dangers like traffic, bicycles or other people. It is recommended to take any bags or other items off the handles, as they could cause your baby to be trapped or even die.
Even if your baby is asleep, it's never recommended to leave a stroller or pram unattended. They can wriggle and become trapped or the pram could be thrown away and the child could be injured. Hanging bags or other items from the handles is not recommended since they could fall and hit your child in the head.
Comfort
It is essential that newborns are able to lie flat, as it aids in lung and back development. Many prams have cocoons or carrycots that creates a cosy, nest-like environment for your baby and is able to be removed from the frame. Others, such as the egg2's bucket style seat do not recline to lay flat but still offer a comfortable ride for your baby.
Some prams also feature an additional bassinet, infant inset or stroller seat, so you can easily change between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's requirements. It is commonly referred to as a 'travel system' and is the first option you should test with your newborn.
Find a pram that has two shoulder straps which are cushioned, and a five-point safety harness. It must fit your child's body perfectly. Be sure that there aren't any gaps or loose areas where fingers could become trapped, and that the buckles are easy to use - especially for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a pram that faces the parent facing pram or not. It's great to watch your child and helping children feel secure with the familiarity of their parents.
Some prams, like the Graco Near2Me, come with a handy raise and lower feature that can bring your baby close to your face with the touch of an button, which our parents testers absolutely loved! This is a fantastic method of keeping eye contact with your baby and stay in contact, particularly when they're sleeping. If you're in the market for a travel system, be sure the frame is compatible with your car capsule to avoid you having to wake them up while changing between car, pram and back again.
Convenience
When buying a pram newborn it is important to consider the needs of your baby's transportation. Some prams have carrycots, 3 in 1 Pram a bassinet or seat that reclines to an upright position. This is important for your baby's spinal development and breathing. It is important to check what other accessories are included in the pram, such as a footmuff or a changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it's cold.
Some prams and compact strollers can be converted into best travel pushchair systems. You can connect a car pod to the frame with adaptors so that you can move your baby from the car to the pushchair without waking them. These are great for those who live a hectic lifestyle or you don't have enough space in your car's boot to accommodate a pram. But, you must keep in mind that you'll need to wait until your child is old enough to sit by themselves before you can change them from a car capsule to the pushchair.
Our parent tester found that the ability to raise or lower the seat of her son's 10 months old was a fantastic feature. One example is the Graco Near2Me, which allows your child to glide closer to you at the press of an button.
Make sure that your pram newborn has a solid base and wheels that can withstand bumps and potholes and that you can fold it down with ease and make sure the safety harness is in good working order that fits comfortably and securely (five-point instead of three-point) and can be adjusted as your child grows. You should be able to store bags for shopping and changing under the pram (but keep in mind that too much weight could cause it to tip over). If you're not sure what model to go with, try some different models at your local retailer.
