Magic Items
A character is able to upgrade only one magic item. If an upgrade project is canceled then any subsequent upgrades for the item will not start. Upgraded magic items cost twice the amount of gold to create or purchase, however they may have additional benefits.
A magical item level upgrade can be any item that has special properties or effects. Most of these items are weapons, but some are also shields, armor and cloaks, potions, rings, scrolls and other objects. Some of these items have a sense of being.
Most magic items can be upgraded to become infused with additional abilities. This makes them more useful to players, or could help them conquer any difficult situation. A weapon infused with an ingredient that is unique could offer, for instance, extra damage against a certain enemy type. This is particularly useful for those who have reached a level where they are likely to face a single type of monster in dungeons.
A ring that is infused can grant protection against piercing, bludgeoning or slashing damages from non-magical attacks (not even silvered ones) until the next time the character takes a long rest. This is particularly useful for melee fighters or any person who wishes to stay clear of buying an armor.
Certain enchanted objects possess special abilities that allow the character to cast spells that are not in their list of classes. This is useful for characters who have trouble filling their spell slots due to multiclassing. These items that are enchanted typically require an Intelligence (Arcana) check prior to use, and the spell cast is determined by rolling a table determined by the number of Intelligence points spent.
Other objects with enchanted powers could allow the character's appearance be changed or create a new appearance. These are particularly beneficial for characters who have had to leave their home, or are in a situation where they might not be welcome. A magical item can provide them with invisibility or make them invisible to everyone except the chosen person.
Utility Items
Utility items are equipment which doesn't fall under the categories of clothing or armor and come with a range of capabilities. Utility items aren't compatible with each other, unlike weapons or armor. Sharpening stones, crafted by a Weaponsmith, increase Power and Ferocity. Maintenance Oils, created by an Huntsman, increase Concentration and healing power. Other utility items can be utilized by players to increase Damage or Condition Damage.
XCOM soldiers can equip one utility item to begin the campaign. An additional slot is available once you have completed certain engineering, research, or research projects on the Proving Ground. During the Alien Hunters downloadable content, additional slots are available by equipping a Grenade Launcher. This permits the player to use an Smoke Grenade or Bomb while an offensive grenade is kept in the main slot.
