Path of Exile item upgrades (check out this one from glamorouslengths.com)

Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Sometimes, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear because of their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item upgrade they're attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kit to recover upgrades from the items.

The amount of damage that an armored item upgrade or weapon will absorb is contingent on the extent of its upgrades. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will boost the damage it absorbs. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it should be heavier.

There are several different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different impact. For example, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade as shown in the table below.

A few of the upgrades are also magic or a hybrid of technology and magic, which is indicated by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees for use. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades are updated daily or never expire dependent on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive, however it is obtainable from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give significant improvements in performance and are worth the cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will significantly increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that putting on weight can drastically decrease its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained usually isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. For example, an upgrade may increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Certain weapons come with special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity to cause more damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade to apply. They can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a set number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the higher the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. Previously you could search for an Upgrade Bench and pay for a specific amount of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to an increased quality. You could do this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for the equipment or weapon, after which the upgrades would be reset.

It's possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. You're better off buying gear with low levels of upgrade and high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier bonuses and blessings.

To level up faster, many players prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will make it more useful when accompanied by experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created through the process of jewelry crafting, where you combine a gemstone and various reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by collecting Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a diamond can be improved upon by the Jeweler, with stages that range from Crude to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the tier the jewel is in when it is inserted into jewelry, weapons, or other gear.

All levels of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a certain level to obtain them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with a jewel of the same kind without destroying the original one. However you can only swap out the jewels in an item level upgrade of equipment once.

It is normal to use more jewelry to enhance the appearance of. The jewels can also enhance performance and make a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction from pivots do not damage them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above, the player can also obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely swapped, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis cannot be swapped, and can only be recovered through an upgrade extractor, or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character various small, but beneficial, advantages. They can be obtained in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It gives a small, but useful bonus in movement speed and the ability to escape. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same way to how a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that are active when the hero is not fighting. This lets a hero become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for the lack of a strong slots in the team or talent tree which are usually filled by the hero's optimal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader to be upgraded. This is true especially if you are looking to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one at the start of the game. Mid and top players on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

Aside from the items listed above, players can find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. They can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, such as the main quest of a chapter or killing a certain boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
