Buying a Pram Newborn
Parents and caregivers can rely on pushchairs and prams to be multi-functional and versatile. They're the co-pilots in the journey of your child.
A newborn pram is designed for newborns and babies. It has the most solid, sturdy carrycot with soft and secure walls.
A triple pram is typically equipped with a bassinet. However, it can be converted to a stroller seat when baby is ready.
Safety
The newborns of today are extremely fragile and should be kept as secure as possible. Buying a stroller or pram equipped with safety features will ensure that your baby is safe and secure while traveling. A stroller or pram should have a working break and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Check that the pram you select is in compliance with these requirements.
Find a pram that allows your baby to travel in the recommended position of lying flat. This position helps support the baby and prevents a potentially dangerous spinal curve that can cause spinal problems. By keeping the airways open, it lowers the risk for SUID (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or Asphyxiation). The majority of prams that can be used from birth will include the seat unit, which will recline to a lay-flat pram mode for babies younger than the age of one and transform into a pushchair unit for older children.
The suspension of a pram is important as it will affect how smooth the ride is. A pram that has many suspensions is likely to be more expensive but it might be worth paying for this feature if you intend on using your pram everyday for a couple of years or longer.
You should always make sure to go through the instruction manual and look over the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not in use, keep your stroller away from potential dangers like bicycles, traffic or other people. Also, you should remove any bags or other objects from the handles, since they could cause your baby to become trapped or even suffocate.
A pram or stroller should not be left unattended with a baby inside even if they are asleep. They could get squirming into the pram and get stuck, or be pushed away and cause injuries. Hanging bags or other objects from the handles isn't an ideal idea as they can fall and strike your child in the head.
Comfort
It is crucial that babies have the option of lying flat, as it aids in lung and back development. Carrycots or cocoons are available on many prams. They create a nest-like environment that is a comfortable place for your baby and can be removed easily from the frame. Others, like the egg2's bucket style seat do not recline to lay flat but still provide a comfy ride for your baby.
Some prams come with a separate bassinet, newborn inset or stroller seat so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes depending on your bub's needs. This is often called a "travel system" and is the first configuration that you should try out with your baby.
Find a pram with two shoulder straps that are ideally padded and a five-point safety harness. It must fit your child's body comfortably. Make sure there are no gaps or areas that are loose where fingers could get trapped and that the buckles are comfortable to use - especially for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a parent facing pram or not. It's ideal to keep an eye on your little one and helps children feel secure with the familiarity of their parents.
Our parent testers enjoyed the features of some prams such as the Graco Near2Me that allows you to raise your baby by pressing one button. This is a fantastic method to keep eye contact with your baby, and stay in touch, especially when they're sleeping. If you are seeking a travel system compatible with the car capsule you choose, you will not have to wake your baby up to switch between the pram and the car.
Convenience
It is essential to take into account your baby's transportation needs when buying a newborn pram. Some prams come with carrycots, a bassinet or seat that reclines to an upright position. This is crucial for your baby's spinal development and breathing. You should also check the other accessories included in the pram, for instance the footmuff and the changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it is cold.
Some prams for sale and strollers can be converted to travel systems. You can connect a car pod to the frame with adaptors so that you can transfer your baby from the car to the pushchair without waking them up. These are useful when you have a busy schedule or you don't have enough space in your car boot to accommodate the pram. However, it is important to keep 3 in one pushchair mind that you'll need wait until your baby is old enough to sit up on their own before you transform them from a car capsule into the pushchair.
Our parent tester found that the ability to raise or lower the seat of her son's 10 months old was a wonderful feature. One good example is the Graco Near2Me which can be lowered to allow your baby to glide towards you at the press of an button and maintain constant eye contact.
Make sure that your newborn pram has a sturdy base and wheels that can handle potholes and bumps. Also, make sure you can fold it down with ease and make sure the safety harness is functional and fits comfortably (five-point rather than three-point) and can be adjusted as your child grows. You should also be able put your shopping bags and changing bags in the basket underneath (although remember that loading the pram with too much weight could cause it to tip over). If you are unsure of which to choose, test out some different models at the local store.
