Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.
For a smooth ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are prone, however to punctures. Be prepared with an repair kit.
Sturdy frame
Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled vehicle - that noughties symbol of more money than sanity is on the verge of disappearing. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can be more versatile in terrain, yet still look stylish and easy to push.
The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is sturdy to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflated and require to be pumped up regularly, have built-in suspension. It was extremely comfortable for my children.
The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. It is important for the seat to be big enough for your child to feel comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.
A great choice for tackling off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for babies and toddlers until age four and includes a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and large cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket and zip pockets on the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with larger diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies (more information) have the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheel stroller and car seat wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on many different terrains and are more flexible than four wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures, so you'll need to have an repair kit, spare tube, and pump on hand.
Some of our favourite 3 wheel travel system-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles" and are able to climb or descend kerbs. The buggies also have a suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".
The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is a problem if you use it for jogging, or need to fit through narrow doorways while on the move. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that let you take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeled buggy is more maneuverable for children. They are designed so that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for difficult terrain like parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with the way it handled kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven ground."
The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel stroller reversible seat wheel buggy might make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to keep in mind when your home is an urban area. If this is a problem then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars are the perfect way to protect your child from scrapes and bumps while out and out and about. They are easy to install and will allow your child to feel secure and safe while out and out and about.
It is designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and padded surface that provides a comfortable spot for your child to hang onto when walking. The durable construction and sturdy design will ensure that your child will enjoy a stroll without worrying about falling out of the buggy or leaning too far ahead.
The sling seat is snug inside the frame as opposed to over it as modular seats do, providing the lowest center of gravity at the appropriate height for your baby and also providing excellent weight distribution for easy kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push the buggy over and up a curb than you might think). MFM reviewer Kath found it to be able to deal well with cobbles and grass and is a great option for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel front wheel that can be locked and air-filled tyres.
This bumper bar is sure to make heads turn wherever it's utilized. It has a sophisticated and elegant design. Available in a range of colours and finishes and designs, it can be tailored to fit your style. It comes with a simple quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to remove and install the bumper bar whenever needed. The bumper bar is easy to clean as it is constructed from strong materials. This makes it an excellent choice for families looking for a stylish and safe stroller accessory.
Comfort
A 3 wheel pushchair-wheel buggy provides the best lightweight 3 wheel stroller in maneuverability and performance when you go off-road. Mountain Buggies are tested to the same rigorous stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.
With a fabric sling seat positioned snugly inside the frame, not sitting on top like modular seats, the Sport's smart design permits it to have a lower center of gravity that is the perfect height for your child - delivering you an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you do not require the same amount of weight or effort to pop the hood of your buggy up and over the curb) and better stability and balance. With 16" rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and air-filled tyres that allow you to enjoy an easier, more comfortable jogging.
As the only pushchair in our collection to come with a parent-facing seat that can also take a carrycot or car seat to ensure the future of your family and enjoy every moment of your day and for years to come in the footprint of a single buggy!
It's not the only reason to adore this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath was impressed by how spacious it is as well. There's a big easy-to-access basket that's surprisingly roomy for a buggy of this size and there's a handy zipped pouch on the rear of the seat unit and even 2 smaller mesh pockets under the hood to store your keys and phone.
