Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could have a prefix or suffix changing the name of the item to which it is used (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade items can alter the defense or attack characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can get the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-level version of the item will drop at the time of the next reset. You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the various Glyphs as well as some rare glyphs to be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Leveling
