Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact 3 wheel stroller design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.
For a smooth ride, go for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies that were the emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive, while also looking elegant.
The bigger the wheels are the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front enable you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with the newborn baby and a 3 wheel stroller with bassinet-year-old child and found it extremely durable. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt sturdy to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.
Another thing to take into consideration is the seat size and shape. It should be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also need it to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies will have an option to lie flat completely while others only allow for a parent facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and wet walks. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers until age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket and zip pockets on the hood, and an extra pouch at the rear facing 3 wheel stroller of seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels means that your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This is particularly useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air filled tyres which means they can be used on different terrains and are much more flexible than four wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to have a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly go up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".
The downside of having bigger wheels is that they can make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is problematic if you intend to are using it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeler can be more maneuverable for a child. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels rotate on a dime and are really easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for difficult terrain such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain and the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed by the way it handled the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven terrain."
The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the lightweight 3 wheel stroller-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should be aware of when you live in an urban area. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better option for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars protect your child from scrapes and bumps while out and about. They are easy to install, and will allow your child to feel secure and safe while out and out and about.
This bumper bar was designed to match the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller. It has a soft, cushioned surface to provide a comfortable surface for your child to hold onto during walks. The durable construction and sturdy design ensure that your child can enjoy a stroll without worrying about falling out of the buggy or leaning too far in the direction of.
The sling seat is snug inside the frame as opposed to over it as modular seats do, providing the lowest centre of gravity at the appropriate height for your baby and also delivering an excellent weight distribution to facilitate kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push the buggy over and up the curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath found it to be able to deal well with grass and cobbles and is a great option for jogging with its lockable swivel front wheel and air filled tyres.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also adored the space of this buggy. There's a big easily accessible basket that's surprisingly roomy for a buggy of this size, plus there's an easy-to-use pouch that zips up on the back of the seat unit, and two smaller mesh pockets inside the hood to store your keys and phone.
