How to Replace an audi a4 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector audi car key tt key fob (caspersen-chapman-2.federatedjournals.com) bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the audi spare key cost in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.
A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially if they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is a good option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues with your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your replacement audi key since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points.
