How to Replace an audi key fob replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole and audi tt key fob A5 Key Fob (Telegra.Ph) when I start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi a4 key. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're an Bosch model like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi advanced key since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. If the sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a standard component across the audi Car Key case 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
